High-Impact & Dosage Tutoring.

Consistent, targeted, evidence-based — designed to move every K-3 scholar toward grade-level reading proficiency.

Consistent. Personalized.

Why high-impact tutoring works.

High-impact tutoring is an intensive, targeted approach to academic support that intends to improve student learning outcomes significantly. It goes beyond traditional tutoring methods by incorporating evidence-based instructional strategies and personalized support tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.

One-on-one tutoring significantly positively affects student academic performance — leading to improved grades, increased confidence, and a deeper understanding of literacy and math.

The five critical areas of reading skill development

Phonemes. Phonics. Vocabulary. Fluency. Comprehension.

Teachers may assign tutors with targeted curriculum direction and materials. With standards-aligned multi-tiered intervention materials, PLI tutors are trained and coached to address the five critical areas of reading development — systematically.

01

Skill-Building

Targeted instruction across phonemes, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension — meeting each scholar at their level.

02

Curriculum

Standards-aligned, multi-tiered intervention materials, paired with direction from the classroom teacher.

03

Monitoring

PLI works closely with school staff to make intentional decisions based on data and student progress — continuous improvement, celebrated achievement.

How the sessions run

30–45 minutes. Two to three days a week. All year.

Volunteers provide assigned students one-on-one and small-group tutoring during 30–45 minute sessions, two to three days weekly during the school year. Usually, volunteers work with one teacher and grade level. Teachers typically assign six students to each tutor, but this number may increase when small-group tutoring occurs.

A typical school day often includes whole-class instruction, which allows volunteers to support teachers and scholars during these activities. Volunteers may help their assigned scholars or the class as they engage in associated activities. Volunteers may substitute that time slot if a designated scholar is absent — supporting unassigned students who may benefit from the extra attention.

PLI may partner with organizations that support literacy, such as the Book Trust or Read by 4th.

Student progress & skills

Data in. Confidence out.

Tutors start the year knowing each assigned scholar's reading skill level and literacy needs. Tutors, teachers, and students focus on continuous improvement and feedback — and enjoy celebrating achievement together.

The goal is for every student to achieve grade-level reading proficiency and academic growth.

School support projects

Beyond the 1:1.

A PLI team has the option to create a school support project focusing on K-3 literacy — from a literacy night, to a book of student poems, to a Meet-the-Author guest visit.
