Pre-Kindergarten Classroom Support.

Experience, wisdom, and a nurturing presence — exactly what a pre-K classroom flourishes with.

Ages three-to-five

A nurturing, supportive presence.

Older adult volunteers providing pre-kindergarten classroom support infuse experience, wisdom, and a nurturing presence to young students. Their diverse backgrounds and perspectives enrich the learning environment — exposing young students to different cultures, histories, and ways of thinking. Their warmth, patience, and caring nature help create a sense of security and comfort for the young learners, fostering an environment conducive to exploration and learning.

Volunteers contribute significantly to language development by engaging in conversations, storytelling, and active listening — providing opportunities for vocabulary expansion, language modeling, and oral language development. They serve as role models, teaching essential values like respect, empathy, and patience. They provide individual attention, offer guidance, and help students navigate their emotions — fostering the development of crucial social skills.

“The intergenerational connection between older adult volunteers and pre-kindergarten students benefits both parties. It helps bridge generational gaps, breaking down stereotypes and promoting understanding and appreciation for different age groups. The students gain exposure to diverse perspectives, while the volunteers feel a sense of purpose and fulfillment through meaningful engagement with younger generations.”

Both sides grow

Volunteering with young students is an act of giving — and of receiving.

Older adults learn from the energy and enthusiasm of the young students, fostering personal growth and a renewed sense of vitality. It provides a sense of purpose, social connection, and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the community.
